The big derby came upon us with Europa needing to win to close the gap up to Champions elect Lincoln and the game began brightly.

Lincoln midfield player Yeray Blasco had a stunning effort tipped over the bar by Munoz as the Spanish keeper produced a save worthy to win any game, a one handed stop to a strike going into the top corner. Lincoln were controlling the initial stages of the game causing problems down the wing as they looked to implement a fast paced and dynamic football. But Europa FC struck first as Guille Roldan received a ball in the 3/4 mark and struck a perfect shot which beat an outsretched Navas in the Lincoln goal. Europa were looking to end this unbeaten streak Lincoln had and they were well onto it…

Lincoln struggled after Europa scored the opener as they lacked the incisive play that we have grown so accustomed to seeing. Livramento, usually playing behind the striker was trying to dictate play from deep in his own half, something which was not working for Procopio’s men.

Europa had some more chances and Lincoln had a header spurned wide by Captain Chipolina with the bulk of the game played in the middle of the park.
In the first 45 minutes of the game, both the Carrasco twins and Europa had outclassed and outplayed their opponents.

The second half was much more of the same with Europa controlling and dictating play with some great movement and passing, beating Lincoln in every aspect of the game. Liam Walker had a good chance from a set play but he was generally off the pace tonight, losing too many balls and not influencing the play as he usually does.

Guido Abayian who had been extremely quiet had a strike from out the box go wide as the towering Argentinian striker had his first effort of the game. Europa still controlled the game and made it 2-0 courtesy of Adrian Pavon who drilled his effort into the bottom corner from an angle past a helpless Navas. The game had seen a total masterclass by the men in Green as they dominated possession and outplayed Procopio’s men who had 15 mins to salvage their unbeaten run this season. Procopio’s decision to play his stalwart Liam Walker straight after his injury was the wrong one, the Gibraltar International having an extremely poor game given the standards he usually delights us with.

Europa saw the game out with Lincoln limited to a few half chances and a disallowed goal for Yeray Blasco although to be fair the men commanded by the Carrasco twins had a superb game, playing some very good football and totally humbling the champions elect who are now 5 points ahead of the men in green.
